Skimmer Question!

Hello i have my new corner tank going and it has a little gap in the corner ware i can slid a skimmer down!!! but i was wondering if i can use the outlet of one of my filters to fill the skimmer up then the out let will go back in to the tank!

But will this work will it skim or wont it becuased the water has been filterd???


I cant fit the pump in the tank no room....

It is preferable to skim the water before it goes into the filter. Then the skimmer can remove the protein waste and the filter won't have as much ammonia and other stuff to break down.

Could i just use a filter with no media?

yep you can use a filter without any media but then you won't have any filtration, unless you have another filter, or are using the live rock to filter the water.

Got a wet/dry filter and a rena xp3 still plus the live rock..... 405 will just have to be my pump for the skimmer!


Tho is it ok to make the tupe longer on these skimmers? in the manuel it says 14cm? or a sertent distace away???

try to follow the directions for the skimmer.

This idea is asking for trouble if you ask me. Skimmers are tempermental and are really designed to work with specific pumps at specific water levels. Playing around trying to supply it with a filter sounds like way more trouble than it's worth to me...

Well it worked! more truble would of ment moveing the hole tank! and really it worked better then it did in my old tank!
