Size?

I got a common pleco about 2 weeks ago and i love it. But i need to know how to determine gender and how big they get. The pet store people told me 8 inches but that doesnt sound right.

yea 8" is nowhere near what it will grow. if given the room they can become monsters like 12-18". there have been reports of ones over 20" but i have only seen scattered pics. most likely he or she will reach around 12" give or take a couple inches.

i hope you have a BIG tank set up. i am having that problem.
