Single Platy

Hello all,

I have a 65 ltr tank and I like the southern platy. However, I don't have room for 2. Just wondering if it is ok if I just keep 1 female platy? My tank already has 3 mollies (2 female, 1 male). Would they get along? Just wondering if platties need company?

I don't know if mollies and platys would get along but that probably would, and most tropical fish are social so it would be best if you got more than one but if you don't have room, I gess you don't have a choise.

platies seem very social to me but if your only getting one i'd recommend a male because females even when you don't have a male could be pregnant

yep defo male as male platy will join any group without any problems, females tend to be loners

Personally i wouldn't advise keeping platys on their own, they do best in at least trio's of their own kind. You say you don't have the room for a group of platys, what fish do you have exactly in the tank at the moment and how many?
