I have had my bn plec for about 3 months now, and he/she/it is coming up for 3 inches in size. As it doesn't have any bristles at all yet, I am beginning to be convinced that it's a girl (although it is still called Bertie  ).

Is a female OK living by itself? Or would it be happier with a husband? I don't really have room in my tank for another unless I rehome something else, so I'd rather keep her alone if it's OK for her.

She doesn't seem unhappy, she is very active and not nocturnal, often seen at the front of the tank eating or sucking the glass.

I agree they are fine on their own regardless of whether they are male or female. If you get a male then you could become overrun with fry, this is good for some people but if you lack tank space for the babies then it may be a problem.
