I was planning on going for a sump, mainly to put my skimmer in to save it being on display in my display tank.. but now I'm wondering if its worth it? What are the pros/cons of having a sump?

Pros increased water volume in the system
Tank equipment out of sight
Easier access for maintenance of equipment

Cons More expensive
needs a little more thought when setting up

I would always go with a sump if I can (mind you my current tank is on a Hob MM filter)

I am also looking into this and was told it is easier for treatments to put in the sump. Also if you have a nasty or misbehaving fish you can put them in the sump (sounds horrible)
Also the extra filter components, I was reading about having LR rubble helps in the sump and sometimes sand? Info on that would be great!!! :D

live rock rubble in the sump is good because it gives a great little area for critters to breed and be safe from fishy predators. Also LR rubble has smaller mass than big bits so a higher percentage of it is surface area and pourous so good for the bacteria.

the sand in sump i assume you mean deep sand bed? this is where you can use non anerobic bacteria as part of the filteration. its kept in the sump as if its disturbed it could potentailly wipe the tank
