Hi, I was in Wilson's pet shop the other day and I saw some very pretty fish. I think they were called Silver Tipped Tetras. They were quite small and I can't exactly remember the colour but they had ball shaped things above and below the the tail fin. I have searched on google by the name I think they are called but the picture that came up wasn't like the fish I saw. I would like to know what they are so I can check them out for compatability with my existing fish - 12" Common Pleco, 9 Mollies (and numerous fry which will be rehomed before I get anymore fish) and 10 Cardinal Tetras. Tank is 65ukgals. The bits above and below their tail fin looked quite bizarre, as if they were stuck on! Any info appreciated. Thanks. :) PS when I next go into Evesham I will try and write down the name, I don't think I could get a pic without looking dodgy.

Thanks for the link. I went back to look at them today and I realise my description is total rubbish! The silver tips give the illusion of something being there which isn't. Sorry about that. Now I have got the right fish I can look up their behaviour and requirements on google. I still think they are very pretty. :)

I searched on google and followed a link back here! Apparently Silver Tipped Tetras are very nippy, so I won't be getting them. It's a pity they do look nice. :)

I used to have some of these and didn't have any problems with them being anymore nippy than most tetras are. Then again, maybe mine were unusual, but I doubt they would cause problems in your tank. You don't have anything with long fins. (unless your mollies are lyretails)

Hi, yes I have sailfins and lyretails so I don't think I'll risk it. I have Cardinals and they are ok. My Mollies are not strictly sailfin or lyretails they are ordinary Dalmation Mollies. Just some have very large dorsal fins and some have lyretails. :)

Silver Tips are one of the tetras that is small colorful and common, but really can be a little aggressive. More so then Neons and the like, but not true monsters in pretty clothes. I have often kept them, and like them a lot. I might not keep them with the other fish you have though.
