just wondering what size your silver shark(s) have grown to adult size? My book says up to 12inches but im sure this varies. Also what size tanks are they in?
most pet shops sell silver sharks when they are small, but they get between 8 and 14 inches, meaning a nice sized tank of around 140gallons. about 6 x 2 x2 feet! i have 2 smallish ones, one is 6 inches the other around 3 inches, people recommend keeping them in shoals of 6 pluss. but i keep 2 in a 4 foot tank.
The profile is pretty accurate. There will always be an odd specimen that grows larger in good conditions. They get a larger in the wild, locally a food fish.
i have three in a 5x2x2 tank and they are about 5", 6" and my biggest is about 8". they are scatty as hell but get along with all the fish in my profile!!

I have no experience with these fish as i dont have tanks large enough to house them. But, at my lfs, they have a 8 foot tank with a schoal of 10 balas/silver sharks with the smallest at 9 inches and the largest at 12 inches, these are kept with about 7 clown loaches at about 9 inches each and ghost knife fish and elephant nosed fish with some other places. Lovely fish and yes, these balas are so quick when they are frightened lol
