I have 3 bala sharks and 2 of them are constantly swiming side by side rubbing up against each other does anyone know what this is? is it a mating or breeding thing?

I believe they are sorting out who's dominant. May I ask if you know how big they get. A lot of people do not.

I used to worry about that too. As they are schoaling fish they are used to being together in small spaces. I think they get comfort from this and chasing each other like playful toddlers. Now mine are bigger it has decreased but they still follow each other a lot.
They do get big however most lfs will swap them for smaller ones if you are concerned The other thing is they need a lot of swimming room. Mine are in 900 litres at the moment but they will outgrow that too.
They are slim and only as big as your pinkie when first purchased but they get to a lot bigger than an average school 30cm ruler so think about room and size as they are skittish fish. they also need oxygen.
Look on Bala sharks on the Cyprinade site. The lord of the Atlantas has some lovely photos of his.
