Im thinking of setting up a 55 gallon Brackish enviroment. I was thinking about doing a Marine reef, but, my freind suggested Brackish because it would be easier and less money. I'm not sure if this is true, but here I am. Anyways, I found this awsome fish on a site I ordered my Dwarf Puffers from. They are very reliable but, I'm making sure I can do this. HERE is the info they give on the fish. I'd like to have a few of them. I've allways wanted a nice predator tank and a unique enviroment and I think Brackish will accomplish this. Thanks for any help.

EDIT: Oh, and if they are appropriate for this home like the site says, how many could I add to this tank? It says that they do best in a group of 3 or more.

In my experience needle nosed gars are not a brackish fish, i kept mine in completely freshwater and a friend of mine who visited Thailand a few years back says that he caught them while fishing in freshwater inland rivers. I believe that the popular missconception that these fish are brackish comes from the exporters in their native range adding a little salt to the transport bags to help prevent fungus and other infections. While there is no doubt that needle nose gars can tolerate some salt and my even thrive in a mildly brackish enviroment i certainly wouldnt want to house them in a tank with the salt levels needed to keep scats, monos and other heavy brackish/marine fish.

this profile may give you a little more information on the fish http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=41749
