hi. i have two 6 or 7 month old silver dollars in a hard african cichlid tank together and last night + today they have been vibrating up against each other, i was just wondering if this is SD mating behaviour?

Yea, they're mating, they should get stronger colour with black spots on their body and tips on their fins.

When spawning they act very skitish but the male sticks with the female at all times. He then bit's her pectoral fin's as well.
When spawning itself happens the both dash off twist 90 degree's releasing eggs. With in my case was then eaten by the cichlids.

Mine too :X

ok well i have 30 cichlids in my tank, but i never rly saw eggs or anything drop, probably didnt look hard enough, mostly hemichromis and labido chromis, and peacocks so im guessing the eggs got eaten

just checking they both recieve the black spot and tips? one also has black dashes in its top fins, im leaning more towards him being the male.

i only ask because my understanding till now was that only the male got the black spot and ive heard that if theres 2 males this can be an aggression type thing.

oh and this behaviour has been going on a week now but no signs of injury etc but one's fins have been nibbled at slightly which is wierd because even with my cichlids theyve only ever had perfect fin growth with no biting
