I've got a pair of Silver Dollars, who love to eat my plants. I'm trying to give them other food to discourage them from eating the plants. They eat catfish pellets and cucumber. I've read that they will eat fruit. What type of fruit will they eat?

Try SHELLED peas, the frozen kind works good. You just pop'em in the Microwave for 30 seconds or so, then shell them and let them cool a bit of course.

You can drop quite a few in at night and they will munch on them all night long. But do it during the day too sometimes because it is hilarious to watch them with peas!!!

But I think it's a losing battle to tell you the truth. Silver Dollars are HUGE hogs and they will just pick away at the plants if there ain't nothing else to eat and you don't want to overfeed them because of ammonia and stuff sooooooo,..........GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!! :dunno:

Given the choice between veggies and meaty food my SD's will always take the meat option, they go mad for bloodworms and will happily rip a mussel to shreds. I have been able to keep some vallis in the tank with them and provided i have a rommaine lettuce leaf in the tank at all times and give them a daily feeding of something meaty they leave it alone to some extent. Other plants you could try are java fern and anubias which most herbivorous fish will leave alone but any soft leaved plants will just be treated as expensive food.
