I've been mulling over the idea of having just one group of fish in my 70 gallon for a long time. I've always liked the look & apperance of the Silver Dollar (Red Hook species, not the spotty ones).

I was thinking of trading my current fish off bar the Plec & getting say 5 or 6 large SD's.

My only real concern is alot of the SD's I've seen often have tatty fins :/

Do they nip each others fins when in an all SD tank?

I think they would look good in my current set up. Thoughts? Advice?

ooo nice tank!

well it already looks great but if your gonna make it a silver dollar tank they shouldent bother each other.. :)

hope you dont regret any decisions

I have 6 SD and all the dollars at the store had ratty fins. I only had mine for a couple weeks and noticed all the fins had grown back and I see no nipping between them going on. Possibly they are so crowded in shipping that the fins become damaged or they are kept with fish that nip? I don't know the reason for it, either.

My SD were extremely stressed when I got them and they literally sank to the bottom of the quaranteen tank and lay there for several hours. I didn't think they'd live, actually. They remained hidden and was very nervous all the while they were in quarantee. I finally put them in with the Tetras (for now) and they have bloomed. They are skoaling with the tetras even and never are in hiding now. And they are growing fast.
