Hi,

Wonder if someone could help.

I have taken quite a young Silver Dollar fish off a friend who was giving away his fish as he is leaving the country. Now i am aware you are suppose to keep these in small shoals and they can grow to about 6", but i mainly have only Mollies and Gouramis in my community tank so i thought the fish would be ok, now to the problem.

One of my Gouramis is attacking the Silver Dollar and it has hidden away. If i were to introduce a couple more Silver Dollars into the tank would it stop?, or wouild the Silver Dollars become aggressive?

I am worried this little fish is going to be bullied and die, it has already lost its back fin through nibbling.

Help !!

What type of gourami's do you have and what are their genders?
Personally i wouldn't keep gourami's of any type with silver dollars, gourami's like heavily planted tanks, silver dollars on the other hand eat plants (they are herbivores). Silver dollars can become very shy fish if placed with agressive ones, if you gourami is being territorial/agressive then i would choose between having either silver dollars or gourami's but not both in the same tank.
For now though i would definately advise separting the fish, either via putting the gourami or silver dollar in another tank, or by using something like a divider net in the tank to separate the fish. Use melafix and lots of small regular water changes to get the silver dollar back to good health after you have separated it from the gouramis (which is very important to do, otherwise its unlikely the silver dollar will get better).

What are you feeding the silver dollar at the moment?
