Silver Dollar New Fish Urgent

Hi I’ve had many tanks I added 2 young silver dollar fish about 2 weeks ago i noticed that both fish have a red mark on each side there in with young angel fish silver sharks. A red tailed shark. Cory. I’ve started treating the water with anti ulcer and fin rot . Has anyone got any ideas that can help

It’s a Juwel 338 litre tank has 6 young angel fish. 6 silver sharks. 3 albino Cory 3 bronze Cory 4 young green Cory . 4 peppered Cory. 1 clown plectrum 2 small albino plecs 2 kissing gourami. 1 red tailed shark all tests say water is fine . And all the other fish are well

No no not what I'm sayin at all. Just watch your tank and see behavior of all the fish not just that one

They aren't normal silver dollars. They are a Metynnis sp and the red is probably natural colouration.

they aren't the common silver dollar fish.

don't add chemicals to tanks unless you know what the problem is. all the chemicals do is poison the fish.

your suckermouth catfish is starving and needs algae, driftwood and plant matter.

If both fish have the marks in exactly the same place, it is the fish's colouring. If it was damage or illness they coud both have red marks but it unlikely they'd be in the same place.

Yes, the fish looks like the species Metynnis maculatus, below is a photo.

There are, however, some very serious issues with your stocking, and as we tend to do here on TFF, I will mention them.

First, the Red Tail Shark should be removed; this fish can get very nasty, individuals vary, but in general as it matures it may literally take over the tank (or try to). It is not good with other substrate fish (your cories may soon find this out).

The Silver Dollar, whichever species but including this one, needs a group of at least six as it is a shoaling species. It grows to six inches, and while peaceful, it must have the group. It should normally not be combined with angelfish or "silver sharks."

The sharks, species Balanthiocheilos melanopterus, will grow to close to 14 inches (35 cm) and also needs a group of five or more to develop the necessary hierarchy (pecking order). The tank must be n less than 8 feet (240 cm) by 2 fgeet (60 cm) in dimensions for this species. It will eat smaller fish.

The Kissing Gourami should also be removed. This fish (Helostoma temminkii) also is large, up to 12 inches (30 cm) and as it grows it will almost invariably become very aggressive. Two will fight to the death, but that can happen to other fish in with it too.
