I have 4 silver dollars 1 of which is a male (isn't he lucky lol). He is mating with the females. Do the males fertilize the eggs while inside female then they are laid later if so who long later or is he fertilizing them as they are laid. They are in a 6ft tank haven't got an other tank big enough to transfer them to. Thought if they are laying when they do their dance and fertilizing them I could try siphoning the gravel where they were into another tank.
Anyone any ideas

They are egg scatteres and then males chase the females very closely while spawning.
Then all of a sudden then both dart off next to each other (males some time bite then fins of the female) and then then female releases then eggs and then fertlises them while in the water.

Syphoneing then off the bottom is the best option once their finished.

But all fish love to eat fish eggs so u have to be quick befor the other fish get them.

What species of silver dollar do you own? Do you have pix of them? I am a big fan of SD's I think spotted silver dollars are most striking
