What preperation would need to be done in order to use this wood in a tank?

first you would need to find one that is water logged. once this was done you would need to clean it and boil it

almost any type of wood can be used in a tank provided it is not still green
(that is has sap in it). once this is acheived then you should submerse it in water,
preferbly not a fishtank, untill it has become waterlogged (IE does not float).
then it will be ok for use in an aquarium.
