Hi all

Anyone know what the smallest size tank you can keep a Silver Bala Shark in? Im looking at the Jewel Rio 300 it is only 4ft long but it holds 383ltrs/84ukgals

I know Jewel say it is 300ltrs but the do say approx. The dimensions work out to 383ltrs, unless this includes the couple of inchs for the hood.

what do you think?

Oh I think they do add the hood for the dimensions so yes it is 300ltrs, after checking my Rekord 96 their dimensions include the hood. A little misleading for working out Stocking density, they should put the tank and hood separate

I think they assign the name as an aid to stocking (Rekord 96, Rio 300- giving the volume in ltrs), but give the outside dimensions as an aid to people who want to know if it will fit into their living room. I have the Rio 240, which is the same lenght but less wide. My own feeling is that it is hardly long enough for balas.

Yeah I think your right Dwarfgourami. You live just up the road from me. Maybe I will get the red-tailed shark, I just need a communtiy that will work with it

Juwel tanks have the volume worked out according to the filter as well i think. If you remove the filter that is internal, then yes, you do have a tank with a larger volume, AFAIK.

with how many balas that are sold yearly...

and with how many 10 gallon -20 gallon tanks they go into....

I'd say he'd be giving whatever he bought the best home it could have, because most people tat bother with a big tank usually go with something else other than the standard fish that most people get....

I would say ethically, It would do better than anyone else Is going to. especially if you remove that filter.
