I know this is probably a stupid question, but I've never done "real" things in my tank (besides fish :) obviously) but I KNOW you have to boil/soak wood (Malaysian bog wood is what I was TOLD it was, but it's probably a sort of drift wood). I'm boiling it now but was just wondering if I need to boil the rocks I bought :/ or can I just wash and the rocks and scrub them off?

I'll put picks up once I get my tank set up!

Hi,
just give them a scrub in old tank water, that what i have always done. :good:

You are only boiling the wood to release the tannins. Rocks just need a quick wash to get rid of any dust & dirt.

Also, boiling rocks could be very dangerous. If they have an air pocket, this could expand and the rock explode. I am always picking up rocks and what I do is put in a tub and pour boiling water over them, it cools to quickly for explosions. Gives me the comfort that any bugs on the surface would be killed.

with the wood, theres a chance it will leach for a while even in your tank. i boiled/washed/soaked 3 bits of new wood for 3 weeks, put them in my new tank and they are still leaching nearly 2 months later. doesnt bother me, i like the look, its good for some fish and harmless to all fish, and with the water changes i do it never gets too bad anyway.
