What a load of rubbish, never heard any thing quite so stupid in my life.

We should make a list. One of my personal ones is the lfs's that tell people that their water tests are fine. I think I'll make a color card that starts with really fine, and goes on to pretty fine, fine, almost fine, could be finer, not really fine, far from fine, and nowhere near close to fine.

When I'm filling tanks with the hose, wide open gives me about 7 gpm. I have dumped full 5 gallon buckets into tanks in under two seconds. Neither has caused a problem.

Soliquid; Find another shop, keep going to this shop for advice, but don't listen to a word of it. Post it here, I got a good laugh.

I had an LPS employee tell me the reason I got a bacterial infection in my tank was because I changed the water too often. According to her, changing it more than once a month is detrimental to your fish because you are sucking all of the good bacteria out. Also, she said I was way overstocked for having 16 juvenile (1.5" or smaller) mbuna in a 75 gallon tank.

Why are ghost shrimp called ghost shrimp? (petsmart employee asking me)

my Local Pets at Home said to a customer that he has toe replace the filter every 4 weeks.

i was in pets at home and a woman asked wat kind f fish she was looking at to the employee and the employee told her it was a shovelnose catfish. i was standing right next to her and had to tell her wat it really was .

it was a puffer fish , lol, how stupid can you get!

they know nothing.

Yep, I don't listen to anything my LFS's tell me. I once went to one were an employee was telling a customer that bettas like being in those small cups and they actually prefer it. I have also pointed out that fish were dead and they assure me that they were sleeping. :/ The have also told me that its okay to up 5-6 fancy gold fish in a five gallon tank. At another shop when I was little, they sold me 2 fancy gold fish in one of those critter keepers that many sell hermit crabs in with no filter, I had them for about 6 months until they died. Obviously I know now that, that is completely unexpectable and was basically torturing the fishes. Then there was the time I first got started ( like real stared, not the buy a fish put it in the bowl and volia your a fish keeper stuff) in this hobby and the guy at the LFS sold me a rainbow shark, a platy (sp?) and a tetra to go in the same tank. He also let me know that i could keep them in that tank for there whole lives. My shark grew to four inches in about 5 months and was five in a half inches in a little less than a year. Partly my mistake(should have researched), but his as well. The one and only place that I listen to when giving my advice is my local mom and pop shop. They really know there stuff(most of the time)

I heard a department store fish section employee tell someone that they shouldn't dechlorinate water in an unfiltered tank because the chemicals don't get mixed with the water and become toxic.... where do these people come up with this stuff! The customers were like "oh good we can save money by not getting a filter and not buying dechlorinator!". No worries though, I set them straight.

'yes you can mix Malawi cichlids with siamese fighters'

(overheard in pets @ home)

i was told the i can have 2 full grown oscars ,a JD or 2, a couple of pims and a common pleco in a 55 us gal tank... with no problems. 10 minutes later i was told that a green terror was not aggressive by a different guy. the people that teach these guys must be on some serious drugs. what do you think? LSD? Mushrooms or crack? :dunno: :p

Its called business, you sell people stuff anyway possible, i dont promote it but it does make business sense. Most people buying dont know about it, so why not make a few extra ££.

Best thing you can do is advise people to research first and buy second :)
