Hi,

I have a 3ft community cold water tank and was hoping to add white sand to it.

Does any one here have sand in their cold water tanks?

Is it advisable to put sand into a cold water tank?

The sand I was hopeing to get is apperently Neutral PH...

Any advise will be much apreciated....

Thanks

Hi,

I have sand in my goldfish tank and I think it is better than gravel. It is much easier to keep clean and I don't have to worry about a goldfish chocking on a bit of gravel.

They also seem to like digging in it so if I was you I would use sand. :D

Hi Dani,

Thanks for your reply... I think I will go with the sand.

Can I ask were u got ur sand from? and wat colour is it? as the only ones I have come across is sandy colour.

Can you add any type of play sand?

Thanks

I've had fine white silica sand in all of my tanks, both tropical and coldwater tanks, for years now and i have never had a problem with it, my goldfish love it as they love to search through the sand looking for food etc :) .

I used playsand from argos which is a light sandy colour but was very cheap, if you want white sand I think you would have to by from a fish shop which will cost more.

Thanks for your reply... I have also read that a few ppl on this forum have used play sand from Argos. But I really wanted white as I have seen the white sand in my LFS and it just looks great.

Ah i got my sand from two of my lfs, where abouts do you live in the world? If you live in England in or near somerset, i know of a lfs that will stock such sand, the price you have looks pretty reasonable, the sand does go a far way in tanks so you don't need much to get a decent layer on the bottom of the tank depending on how deep you want it  .

I live in London and the most of my LFS stock the sandy coloured one.

Thanks though, I think I'll go ahead and order it...
