Is there such a thing as a silent air bubbler?

I have an Aqua Air AP1 - and its pretty annoying, but if i turn it off the fish gasp at the surface after a day.

can anyone recommend a truely silent bubbler?

Thanks

Mark

the most silent air pump i bought was a rena.

it was a bit more expensive but extremely silent operating. the filter did get clogged though and then it became noisy. i just do without air pumps now.

get a spray bar on your filter outlet... put it about 1 mm above ater level (so you cant hear the water splashing) that puts air in the tank much more effectively... air pumps are a waste of money

Well, that would depend on what type of filter you are using. I run air driven sponge filters in my fry tanks. An air pump is essential in that type of setup.

ALL of my tanks (30 +/-) are run on air pump driven box filters. My apartment is not a quiet place but the small hum of the pumps and the bubbling of the filters is quite pleasant. :D

In general, the smaller rated pumps are quieter for a given brand.

You can also use a small powerhead, like the Koralia nano, and point it so that it curns the surface of the water to improve gas exchange. The powerheads tend to be silent.

i have a fluval 304 filter. if I turn the air bubbler off for more than a day the fish start to gulp at the surface and the plecs move to the top of the waterline...
