Signs Of Dropsy

How do you know when your guppy has dropsy? Does pregnancy give dropsy to livebearers? Does my guppy have dropsy. Cant get pics right now but, she's kinda bulgy and square from the front. Does have signs of pregnancy, no scales sicking out near the bottom. Visible dark gravid spot and tends to hide often. Is this the early stages of dropsy or is it pregnancy o.o. I did however, put in 2 bunches of Elodea to float in the tank and a huge pennywood green plant. She tends to hide from the male but usually comes out after a while.

Hello,

I am an experianced Guppy breeder.The symtoms of your Female is normal guppy behaviour, You should have fry in a couple of days! my Suggestion is to get a fry hachery at your local pet store and a small tank (5 and a half gallon) raise your fry until they are a little more than a half inch long and put them in your Community Tank!Also keep your male away from her if you can after the birth. You can force birth by simulating cold rain on the top of the tank, and aquarium salt helps too. Keeping your temp. at aroud 80 degrees make guppies grow faster when under one inch!

What is a fry hatchery? I got a budget right now, is there something thats cheap I can do to help? I got a hexagon tank thats about 30 cm from one side to another. Should be about 4-6 gallons. I got heater, gonnna diy sponge filter soon. Anyway, why do I have to keep the male away? Btw, if Im too late for the birth, theres only 3 guppies in there, two females and one male, would they eat the fry? thank you.

They may eat the fry, but the floating plants you have in your tank will provide some cover so there should be some survivors.

If your guppy starts to have scales sticking out, then it's dropsy, otherwise, she's just pregnant.

I got some pics, I thought it was dropsy due to it being kinda larger than my other guppy. I don't know what was with the digital camera , but the flashes kind of messed the pics. There is a gravid spot but a lightish brown-red one. Weird...

I can't tell anything from the pictures as they are too blury, but if she has a gravid spot that is light brown/red it's probably pregnant. One of my guppies had a brown/red spot too. I think it just depends on the guppy. Some have darker spots than others.
