Some people's signatures are quite large. I know we have a limit to 5 lines, but there are quite a few people I see who break this rule. It's kind of annoying. :X

Like when people list their fish, they do it like this:

30 gallon

5 bala sharks

20 corys

10 oscars

6 arowanas

You should maybe add in the sig rule thread (that I doubt people read) that lists of fish should be done horizontally, not vertically.

lists of fish etc should be put in your profile....

If you spot a bad rule breaker just report them ;)

you could also turn off sigs

I agree..the problem with long sigs is that it increases the difficulty with reading through a post. If there are any concerns, one could privately PM a mod. SH

Perhaps the rule should be losened slightly or applied with an iron fist.

The first line of the rule is:

Due the excessive space taken up by some signatures we have come to the decission to limit signatures to just 5 lines of standard sized text or one picture/gif (maximum size of 100k or 400px wide x 300px tall) and 2 lines of text, large text should be treated as a picture and limited to 2 lines.

So a pic and 2 lines of text OR 5 lines of text, which Steelhealr as a mod is breaking with 5 lines of text (6 if you count the row of dots) AND a picture, so potentially breaking it twice  . Smithrc has 4 lines of text and a pic, so another one there.

Now I'm certainly not having a pop at either of those two guys, in fact I think that neither has an excessive sig, but this current rule, seems to be one of those rules that people can ignore unless someone else complains about it? In light of recent discussions about people reading the rules and they have to obey them without exception, seems a bit hypocritcal to have one that even mods are ignoring

I think this rule came about when a lot of members were on dial-up, where I would assume now that most are on broadband so the bandwidth is not an issue perhaps making the limits larger could be allowed. Failing that, apply the rule to yourselves and all the normal members ;)

Arfie..what's that American Express commercial...'membership has it's advantages'? LOL..but if it bothers you, I will remove the 'Go Nano' line which I put up for our section. LOL. SH

Well if we're resorting to using sayings ;)

Firstly Steel, it doesn't bother me  as I clearly stated had you bothered actually reading what I wrote ;)

But, even if you remove "Go Nano", you will still be in breach of the rules  the rule is 5 lines of text OR a pic and 2 lines of text, so you need to lose 4 lines of text from your current sig OR lose the picture and one line. So you clearly don't understand the rules :p And as I've seen repeated many times by mods when berating members, you agreed to abide by all the rules when you joined up, if you don't know them you need to go and read them.

What I am saying is, IMO either this rule should, like all others, be applied with an iron fist, so any sigs that are breaking the rules get deleted, or else the rules should be revised. Personally I think there is room for revision, if for no other reason than to allow your sig to be within the rules ;)

Well said Arfie...well said :good:
SH-Arent most of us members? ;) Perhaps you mean "Being a moderator has its advantages..."?

Arfie is spot on here. Considering how often the mods love to quote the rules and how we have all agreed to abide them, to see mods flouting it does make them appear hypocritical.

Either enforce the rule or change/remove it. As stated before, it was mostly introduced to help out loading times in the dial up age. I can't see why the rest of us should continue be held down by the constraints of the 21st century Luddites.

Edit - shoudl have added that there is also an off button for swigs too, so those that don't like the larger ones don't have to look at them.

problem with switching them off is when you go into a thread and someone says "check my sig for stocking".

Then you have to come out of the thread, switch them back on, go back in the thread, read the sig, reply, go out of the thread, and then switch them off again.

If the rules said sigs had to be 3 lines or something similar, that wouldn't happen. i read tff a lot on a mobile device, and sigs mean loading times are extended.

I just turned my sigs off. If you go to the member's profile you can see their sig.
