As some may know I don't name my fish because I think if you do...they'll die. I lost Floyd today  , he was one of two bettas with names, him & Pink, his love. You might remember me mentioning them before and how crazy they were about each other,I have a picture in the pic forum of them sleeping side by side  I feel so bad for her.

This is only the third betta I've lost in two years.1st being Candy Cane Boy who got dropsy about 4 months ago. See any pattern with the name thing? he was another betta that I foolishly named and he was my absolute favorite ever, there's no other like him & there never will be ,and I had a female who jumped out of her bowl :X

I'm pretty sure Floyd was just old. He'd been with me for 6 months, almost to the day. And when I bought him I could tell he was an old man. He had no illness, just got really slow the past 3 days ,a little pale and he was eating less, but eating, he ate like 5 pellets yesterday -_-

I got him and two other males on the same day...waaaaaah, does that mean these two are gonna die on me too!! :-(
*peeks at the other two boys, whew they look good*

So now there's the matter of Pink
I don't know what to do for her, she's obviously grieving :-( , I thought if I took her out of that tank all together it might help. So I did and I rearranged some bettas, turned her tank into a 3 way divided, moved 3 in to it and gave her one of their old tanks.

I moved her into my bedroom next to a male I have ,who's always been alone (he's the one I bought in a container with a dead betta  ) I gave her some brine and some different plants, told her how sorry I was but....*sigh* she still looks sad :-(

oh i'm sorry you lost him :-( i actually cried when i lost my fish last week. i named him too, poor little thing. it's the worst thing. hopefully Pink will move on, maybe find a new love? :) -_-

Do you get all your bettas from the same LFS? It could mean that they are selling 'seasoned' bettas - I don't like to use the word 'old' - and thus, have a 'shorter life span' when brought home. Just another possibility. But remember, unlike the bettas that die off in the store unsold, your bettas died being loved 'til the very end. That says a lot.

Don't you have the hansome orange male betta, who won't breed with his expensive counter-part? Maybe it's fate, and he's suppose to be Pink scaley knight in shining armour. ;)

Thanks you guys, I'll send her your condolences  :)

No itty bitty, I get them from all over the place, Floyd actually came from a Wal-Mart about 100 miles from here ,I bought him while I was visiting my mother ;)

lol dix, good thinking! but it would never work  I had actually set her next to him for a minute during all that tank rearranging and I swear ...she's so large she could swallow that orange male in one bite  , she's gotta be the biggest female I've ever seen, much larger than many of my males (in body size, not counting finnage)

I went and checked on her a second ago....the male next to her was trying to get her attention but she had her back to him ,just staring in a corner.

No one can ever convince me otherwise....fish DO mourn. A certain kindredship happens when they live together for so long. I lost a compressiceps due to a chloramine accident one time (they're very sensitive), her,my eel and a front of mine were inseperable, best friends, after the comp. died the front quickly died too, the next day, after that my eel went into hiding for almost a week but none of the other fish seemed to care.My husband watched the whole thing and said as soon as the compressiceps took her last breath the front swam over and nudged her repeatedly as if trying to wake her up. It may sound like I'm crazy  ,but it's true. Almost like that book Where the Red Fern Grows -_-

Ugh, wuv, I'm so sorry to hear about this. I know you've heard me complain about the same naming problem too, it seems to much of a freaky reoccuring thing to be a coincidence in my case. Anyways... I haven't shared on here yet because I'm still having a lot of trouble with it, but I lost my little girl the morning after bringin her home.. :-( And... I'd just named her... hours before she died. BLEH. Thought I'd share.. you're not alone with your grieving, and once again - soooo sorry - I remember seeing his pic, he was a beautiful fish.

see??? what is it with us????
I knew you'd be able to associate with my name theory

So sorry about your girl, that stinks that she didn't even get one full day in a nice home :/

For now I brought Pink back out here in the livng room with me, that boy in my room was entirely too excited and acting aggressive, I don't think she liked it

sorry to hear about your baby wuv! :-(

I'd be really upset if I lost my two! :(

is she doing any better today?

Thanks Jo

She seems to be doing better today, I noticed she built a little bubble nest

I couldn't decide if i was helping her or adding insult to her injury by moving her out of her tank, but she seems to have moved on. I put her back beside a very peaceful male who was her & Floyd's neighbor.
