Hi all
After reading one of the pinned articles on keeping plants (and very informative it was too) I'd like to give the plants a siesta during the day. Only thing is that I like to see and feed the fish before I go to work at about 7am and then to have the lights on during the evening up till about 11pm. Is it acceptable to have a much longer siesta during the day....like, about 4 or 5 hours?
The tank gets CO2, fertilisers and about 1.5w/gallon....plus some natural light as it is in a conservatory.
Thanks
Kev

TBH it doesn't work, i have 2 tanks,

1) 2WPG, Co2, TPN+ daily - 10hrs straight, i get GSA

2) 2.4WPG, Co2, TPN+ daily, 5 on 2 off 5 on, i still get GSA

2nd tank has been running for 3month and there is no difference.

I have heard other people say it doesn't work either and the plants will prefer a straight photoperiod.

id have to agree, i ran a siesta period for a month and it had absolutely no effect on algae, and the plants didnt seem to like it, id say just go for a straight photoperiod of 8-10 hours.
