iv recently bought a siemese fighter

he seemed fine but just recently hes seems to
be sedated all the time he'll perk up when i feed him

but most of the time he just lies around

also he lies over the filter with head sticking out the water

is there something wrong with him

In the past, when my fish are close to dieing, and loose all fight to live, they just stop swimming and lay against the filter at the top. So i hope someone can help you as the fisht hat go against the filter and stay there usually dont live much longer than a day. Sorry :(.

A few questions first:
What size tank is he in?
Is he the only fish inhabitant?
What are your ammonia and nitrite readings?
What temperature do you keep the tank set on?
When fish stay at the top of the water, they are usually looking for oxygen because the water doesn't contain enough although for bettas it is normal for them to breate air from the surface.

and yes theres no air pump in the water but isnt that because they have a lybrinth lung

Becoming lethergic can be a sign of internal problems, such as internal bacteria. Since he's the only one in there, and he's not very messy, you could turn off the filter to make less current for him to have to swim against.

How long did you acclimatise him to the tank for when you got him and how long has he been like this? What have you tried feeding him so far and how much?

He sounds depressed. Do you ever put a mirror behind his tank so he can flare? Flare means that he spreads his fins out as far as they can go and he swims really fast?
