I don't know what's wrong but all of my bettas have a fungus. It looks like cotton growing on them and it's starting to cause wounds. I did a water change Monday and Tuesday morning all of the tanks had this crusty white stuff all over the glass.

So I scrubbed it off and did full water changes, this morning it was back. Today I have 3 females with the fungus, my ct male, my bf vt, and my red delta in my avatar all have it too. My blue plakat has lots of small pin holes in his tail, I think it's the beginning of tail rot. I don't know what to do because if it's in the water, doing changes isn't going to help. My brother brought home a blue female last night, I put a little stresscoat in her cup and 2 hours later she had the fungus too!!! argg, what do I do? I have a tiny bit of bettamax left but not nearly enough to treat all the tanks, and melafix somewhere (I have to find it). I already have salt in all the tanks. HELP!!!

This is whats in my disease files.

Fungal Infections
Symptoms: White or cotton-like substance concentrated mainly on scrapes, surface injuries, fins or mouth.

Treatment: Treatment of fungal infections is relatively easy. There are a great many commercially available products for this, including MarOxy by Mardel Laboratories and Super Sulfo and Would Control by Aquatronics.

Information: This is a very common disorder which infects all kinds of tropical fish. It is intensified greatly with fish having damaged fins or cuts and scrapes. It is also much more likely in poor water conditions in which there are unacceptable levels of ammonia or nitrites. Fungal infections are also a sign of bullying by other fish. Fin nippers will damage the fins of other fish making them more susceptible to fungal infections and external bacterial infections such as fin and tail rot.

Arrrg, well I've been doing water changes every three days for months, so it can't be from bad water. I was without water conditioner for about a week and a half recently and they were fine, then I finally got water conditioner and changed the water then this happened.

I did a massive water change in my 8 gallon that is divided for bettas and my other plakat now has the same symptoms... in an hour! I used all my bettamax now on the females and the ct. Can't find the melafix anywhere. Fish stores are closed now, hopefully they'll be okay until I can get something tomorrow. :-(

Oh man.. I lost a betta today... he had some sort of gill inflamation for months.. i think because I had been giving him light treatments of some meds, it helped him live a little longer.. but i guess they just gave in.. :( it's scary when fungus attacks.. My male betta i believe in my community tank caught something, so i put him in a hospital tank with melafix,, i think it may be working.

oh god, in my opinion fungus is right up there with dropsy, probably worse. my only fish to get dropsy lived, anyone who got fungus died...

i hope your guys and girls pull through Auratus. fishie prayers.

I have no idea Aur. :/ I hope they all get better soon, and that another member of the forum will be able to help out.
