Hey everyone,
I have never seen this before, I wish I had a picture of it. But my betta has about 1 or 2 scales right behind his left fin that had seemed like they were coming off a little bit. The next day, I looked at him, and there was this white/fuzzy like string hanging from it. By the end of the day, it had fallen off, but the 2 scales were white and fuzzy. The next day, he had what looked like a string of poop coming from the 2 scales, it almost looked like a little worm hanging out of it. And again, by the end of the day, it was gone, and the scales looked a little less white and fuzzy. But he's still swimming around and eating and everything. I've had bettas for awhile but I've never seen something like this before. Any ideas on what might be going on and what to do? I started treating him with Mela-Fix because I thought maybe it was a wound or something. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks

Diana

hi
can you tell us how long you have had him and what you keep him in and does he have any tank mates. whats your cleaning routine and size of tank/container?
it could have been a fluke but if you have had him a while and no other fish is with him then it could have been an abcess that burst.
do you test his water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and the ph regularly?

I keep him in a 3 gal. Eclipse system with a biowheel. His only tankmates are an ottocynclis (algae eater) and an ADF. I change his water every other week. I haven't checked the levels of nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, and all that lately, but I think I will do that today. So far today, there has been nothing coming out of it, it just looks more like an open wound. Should I keep adding mela-fix? I also add aqua salt whenever I change his water.

Are you sure it was a worm, not the writer of this information.

Worms Under the Scales- If you see worms under the scales you are seeing anchor worms. They are best treated with Dimilin. Dimilin clears the worms in only a few days. Once administered it remains in the water for months. Dimilin is available at http://www.koivet.com top
