:/ I'm hoping someone can help with a problem with one of our Zebs.
I'm new to fishkeeping so any exp./info would be welcome. We got 4 zebra danios 2 weeks ago, they seemed fine, one got a bit picked on by the others so the next week we decided to introduce 2 more to make more of a shoal. But now this week one of them isn't looking so well and I can't tell if it was the bullied one, but he is swimming funny, round in circles mostly and then falling down to the bottom of the tank/or onto plants and just lying there. I can't see any obvious fin damage, so we thought it may be a swim bladder problem. He looks normal, just swimming/lying on his side.
Does anyone have any ideas? Or come across this problem? We have moved him to a separate hospital tank for the time being, but all our water levels have been tested and are fine.
Any thoughts welcome :)
Thank You :D

...thats hardly normal

I'd say it sounds a lot like a swimbladder problem, either that or lack of oxygen/excess co2......could be the water temp but I doubt it.

hmmmm does he appear thinner than the rest?

i had the same problem but with a leopard cory, they were fine when i had bought them and then two days later he faded out and swam funny (circles and just laid upside down or on the plants)

still don't what happened to him. i tested the water and it was fine to.

Well, he's now hiding in the hospital tank! We've had the venturi on in the main tank, so think he should have got enough oxygen, not sure about the CO2, but we've only put plastic plants in the hospital tank. The temps been about 76-78 and he doesn't seem to be thinner, but i'm not sure if he's eating much. We've now started him on a swimbladder treatment, so I guess we just wait and see -_-
I just hope he's not suffering

I've had the same problem however sadly my danio eventually died. If its a swimbladder then there is no pernament cure...he probably is suffereing because he can't really swim. The best treatment for swimbladder is raising the temp and starvign the fish for a few days. Tell us how it goes.Good luck Do you have any other fish with the danio?

:( Well I'm afraid the little guy didn't make it :(

He just seemed to get worse, not eating and lying on the bottom, I'm just glad he's not suffering now, I kinda feel bad tho as we knew he probably wouldn't make it but we couldn't bear/didn't know how to end his suffering.

He did have a companion after a few days as one of our new Neons wasn't looking too hot - it looked as tho some one had taken a chunk out of his top fin, sadly he died too, but now feel guilty as we don't know if he died from stress or whether there was bacteria in the hospital tank.

As a preventative measure we have treated the main tank with some Liquisil medication which says it gets rid of harmful bacteria, and they recommend using that on a monthly basis to keep the bacteria in balance/check.

Well, off to disinfect the hospital tank... :/
