sick red tail shark

I have had this little redtailed shark for over three months and he hasnt growed any at all I checked the water readings and they checked out to be 0 on all but the nitrates was 5.0 for some odd reason his tail turned clear looking and I know when it turns like that they are something wrong he wasnt swimming normal either upside down so I took him out and put him in a hospital tank and added some maracyn catfishcrazy are they anything I could do to make him start growing any. Plus does anyone else know what could be wrong with him that could make him swim like that . I have been feeding him him some frozen bloodworms and I gosome frozen brine shrimp today. I knew it was time for my luck to run out with my fish I have had 2 months withut any illness at all then it has hit me all at once again.......................

Might be swim bladder disease. Did you give him any hidey holes? Red tails like to hide all day, and if they have nowhere to hide, then they get stressed out and lose their color. Then they become less immune to diseases.

yes he has plenty places to hide all day long he rules the tank I sure hope I dont lose him he is one of my favorites.

I noticed this evening the little redtails gills are red and his color still hasnt got back to his tail yet the water readings are all ok what can I do for him because he seems to be getting worse.

I'm not sure, it might be due to stress. You might want to ask a moderator for advice, they know a lot. Sorry I cant help you here
