Hey I am asking this question for a friend of mine. He has had a tank going now for over a year. In his tank he has two German Blue Rams. The female has recently gotten a large belly and has a white spot on her side near the gill. Just curious to see what it is

Photos would be a huge help.

It has now developed something around its eyes. looking for some advice on how to treat it would be appreciated. hope pics work for you.

Rams should be kept on a low Ph and high temp. Don't know if that's the case. Especially at higher Ph they are often infected with specific bacteria that can't survive more acid water. The same reason lot's of cardinals get infected at higher Ph. Rams als are under suspecion to be prone to Iridovirusses as Gouramis for sure are. This virus isn't treatable and causes lot of different symptoms at a later stage, Don't thinks this fish is gonna make it (Hope I am wrong).

By the way : Tje white spot behind the gills is often seen, but not sure what it is. It points to Iridovirus for me, but don't have any serious proof.

Do you have any close ups of the eye? If it has a white spot the size of it's pupil situated on the centre of it's head (between the eyes) the fish could have hole-in-the-head disease.

I would need close-ups of the fish to make any sensible conclusions.
