Looks like straightforward damage to the mouth, likely through trying to dig in a tank with a sharp or coarse substrate. Fighting is another possibility, if this Mogurnda is being kept with other specimens of its own kind. Review conditions in the tank, and if you want, treat for Finrot AND "Mouth Fungus", a kind of bacterial infection despite its name. Fairly brackish conditions might also be used, and while Mogurnda doesn't need brackish water, it tolerates salt well, and brackish water sometimes has a tonic effect on fish like these that look a bit moth-eaten.

Cheers, Neale

ah ya he has been kept in brackish but i was doing salinity shifts and i noticed this around near freshwater, 1.001-1.002 sg. I bumped up salinity to 1.003sg and will get to 1.004/5 this weekend. the only reason i dont think its damage is because if you notice he has wounds on his head, behind his eye about a quarter of an inch and up towards his dorsal side. The mouth damage appeared a day later.

my goby had "mouth rot" aka columnaris when i was new into the hobby and had him in freshwater, some salt dips cured that.

will rid ich work, it has both formaldehyde and malachite green. Or should i go get some maracide 2 or triple sulfa?
