Hi

Having a major crisis at the moment!!

have moved house broken the 6ft tank got them in a 4ft tank (Sailfin Plec, Green Terror 6" and Jaguar 8") at the moment, got a new 6ft in the flat but nowhere near ready to setup and now have a sick plec!

Ive attached a picture not very good but its off my mobile all I have at the moment, cant test water as I cant get near any of the kit yet will have to buy some more tomorrow as it will be quicker.

Anyway he's VERY bloated and has a milky sack coming out instead of normal poo like strands, it has made the water a bit milky but im doing water changes now any ideas welcome! he's really not active either not that he is normally but enough to see a visible difference for example he is now sitting in the Jaguars pot which is normally a big no no, although my Jag is actually leaving him be thank god

Anyway im off to change a bit more water will check back later

thanks for any help in advance!

Dave

Is the plec female or male.
Can you see anything inside the milky sack.
What colour nornally the fish waste.
Being bloated can be constipation, bacterial, internal parasites.
What do you normally feed your fish.
Are scales sticking out.
Check the anus of the fish to see if it's enlarged or red and inflamed.

Hi

not sure on sex to be honest
cant see inside the sack could man handle him to look just don't want to add to stress if I don't need to, from what I can see its like a milky fluid with a few particles all white in colour though, normally nice long brown waste, he feeds on algae wafers but also must pick up some of the debris from the cichlids as there messy eaters, scales and body looks fine apart form the bloating also he's lost a bit of colour in patches

Just want to make sure it's not a sack of worms.
is not an organ is it that sticking out of the anus.
Is it possible to issolate the sick plec.
I would feed some peas for the bloating, don't feed for a few days.
Epson salt baths help draw fluids out.

well cant see any worms yet but let me know what that would be as tomorrow there could be!

No doesn't look like an organ, will try to find my digital camera to get a better photo

I cant isolate him at the moment, this couldn't have happened at a worst time, ive just moved house and broken the 6ft tank they where in!

How many peas do you rekon? ive got some frozen ones I could defrost, ive not fed them today and im doing 25% water change which I will probably keep up daily??

The only thing I can think of its an egg sac or worms. Need to know really if its male or female the plec.
Cook peas for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell and mush between fingers into small pieces and add to the tank.
About three peas or more if you are feeding the whole tank.
Is it possible to issolate him in a container at the top of the tank.

You will need to get a wormer then and dose the whole tank.
Get you a link to a med.

There this med but it dosn't treat thread worms.http://www.thegreenmachineaquatics.com/mall/productpage.cfm/Aquatics/_nematol%20001/198936
There another med I will get a link to that aswell, as I think that treats thread worms.

Sera Nematol

Sera Nematol is a very effective remedy against nematodes such as Camallanus, roundworms (Capillaria) and discus pinworms (oxyurids) for fresh and salt water fish. A sensational R & D success: sera med Professional Nematol is the first ornamental fish treatment against Nematodes that may be sold freely. It is based on a patented Emamectin/solvent complex, highly effective and easy to dose. sera med Professional Nematol is particularly effective against Camallanus and round worms of the genus Capillaria, which mainly occur in angelfish and discus. It can also be optimally used against pinworms (Oxyurida), dreaded by discus keepers. At the same time it combats the small copepods that Camallanus uses as intermediate hosts. Result: With sera Nematol a well tolerated and highly effective ornamental fish treatment that can be sold freely is now available for the first time! It is a liquid and therefore can be dosed easily and precisely.

Dosage for sera Nematol:

Add 1 ml sea Nematol per each 40 litres of aquarium water. Distribute the treatment on the watrer surface from the dosage cup while stirring it into the water with a spoon or staff. Aerate the aquarium well during the treatment, switch off UV-lamps and do not filter through active carbon. A water change of at least 80% must be carried out after two days (or during the treatment if the water gets cloudy). You can combat larvae that have hatched from the eggs in the meantime with a second application of sera Nematol three weeks later.

From £11.89

excellent thanks!!

should i feed the others or diet all round?? anything else to help the plec??

Are the worms in the tank dead or alive, I would get them out with a net.
he could be bloated because of the worms.

I would still feed peas, I would add them to there diet twice aweek.

Not much to do apart from epson salt baths for the bloating.
Internal parasites do alot of damage to the internal ogans resulting in bacterial infections.

There's not that many and there tiny, will get some out into a bucket cant tell if there going with the flow or moving. will fish out as many as i can see anyway!

Going to get some peas done now

Thanks for you help much appreciated

Dave

The tanks need worming so get a med fast.
Good Luck.
I had plecs die of internal parasites, as they were no meds available that I knew of then.

Hi

Sorry for late reply not on the internet much.

Well sadly my plec passed away last week, I did manage to quarantine him the next day and have treated the tank, there's no sign of any worms now and all the others are doing fine.

Thanks for the help

Dave
