I have a female platy who is sitting in the one spot in the tank...not moving....she does not look well...

She looks very thin and her gills seem redder than normal (she is a yellow platy so her gills always look pinkish)...

Any ideas?

ATM she is in the quarantine tank with aquarium salt...

EDIT....I just tested the parameters and Ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 5-10ppm, pH 7.4

Hello Chook ;)

If a fish has red gills thats great, its how they should be. When they have gill parasites the gills turn white and pale.
Your water seems fine to me. I wouldnt personally bother with salt but thats just my opinion.

Is she feeding?
It might be that she has come kind of internal parasite. If so you'll need to add an internal parasite medication to get rid of whatever it is.
I'd only medicate as a last resort though.

Is there anything else you can think of. Even the slightest thing may be a potential cause :/

Drop a tiny bit of food in near her, see if she goes for it. Also, check if her fins are clamped - platys clamp their fins for no reason for random periods of time, but if you watch them for long enough (15mins+) they'll normally flare their fins again. Likewise sitting near the top for short periods of time is just fine, but if she's there for a while (or just isn't very active), something isn't right. Do you have the lights on?

ok...this is really weird....she eats fine....i have her some bloodworms and flake last night.....ate EVERYTHING....including crap that fell to the bottom....after feeding she looks normal....not thin, has energy and swims around the tank....

3 hours after feeding her energy starts to drop off....so last night I fed her again.....and she picked up.....WEIRD....perhaps she just needs to be fattened up or something....

She is not clamping her fins and I haven't done anything different with the fishes routine....have nit used any chemicals around the house etc.

I will keep her in quar tank and watch her

My female platy is going throught the exact same thing. And she's also a yellow platy. Only mine didn't want to eat this last time. Also she looks a little bloated and with a tiny red spot on the side. If anyone could contribute with any advice that'd be great!
