Hi,

I thought my molly had a combination of whitespot and fungus, but after seeing the website Arfie posted (Thanks for that ;) ) I'm starting to doubt it. I'm not sure if the website is just displaying very extreme cases but what those fish have looks nothing like what mine does!

Anyway what mine had was a minor case (compared to the pics on the web site) of white spot (I thought), but she hasn't been rubbing up against any rocks, but anyway it went after treating with medication and turning the temp up. But it she has been left with fin rot and a very fine layer of pale blotches on her scales which I thought was fungus, but looks again nothing like those pics, It is no way as furry as that. Does my molly just have a minor case of this?? and if so will a higher temp kill this like the white spot?

Thanks

Explain exactly what you see on the Molly. Mine recently developed fin rot. I didn't know it was that for a few days. Started out as white blotches almost on her tailfin. She's a white molly so I had a hard time remembering if it was part of her tail the whole time and I just never noticed it or white. One day I noticed her side fin had started to rot, and I realized that would start on the tail. So I started to medicate and she's swimming around with a lot more energy now and the spots are almost gone... !!

I assume that you don't have salt in your water right now. So, add it. Salt pretty much takes care of wite spot and fungus. 1 of those 2 is what it sounds like it is to me.

Thanks For the replys!

She's a Black molly so the white patches show up pretty clearly. Her tail fin is the one with the fin rot. There's a little split down the middle about 1/2 cm long and the ends of her fin started to go a bit transparent. As for the white blotches they are on her body/head.

I don't think that I can add salt because i read somwhere else on the forums that it is not good to put salt in water with corys. I don't have an other tank so I can't even seperate her from the rest.

you're right - salt will hurt the corys. then use a general antibiotic on the tank, but half the dose b/c of the cory's. do a water change first, i hear this has a lot to do with poor water conditions... good luck!

Is temperature an issue with fungus? Should I leave it at 30C or lower it back down to 27C.

Hmmmmmm :/ Thanks, I'll turn it down again tonight. Do you thing changing the temp so drastically in 2 day's will stress out the fish?

I have had 5 degree temperature changes during the day once and didn't seem to stress my healthy fish. Didn't have any sick at the time.
