My female baloon mollie is usually light yellow and a very active fish but lately she's been hanging out on the bottom of the tank and has got 2 bright orange blotches on her. She lives with a male mollie and her five fry she hasn't been eating as much as usual, all my other fish are fine. whats wong with her?

sisqo :(

Hanging out at the bottom and not eating much is not a good sign i'm afraid, I would of medicated if you could of issolated her but she is pregnant.

I recall mollies being slightly delicate and prefering saltwater. For me when I first started out they where hard to keep. Isolation might help, at least so she doesn't give whatever she has to other fishies in the tank.

One of my mollies lies on the bottom sometimes when the male is getting to aggressive with her but she does perk up when I feed them. I have two females and one male, so maybe your female is getting too much attention?

What are your ammonia levels, nitrite and so on??? This sounds like one of those to me.Also mollies are a brackish fish they like salt can you add some salt or do you have any scaless fish in with the mollies???

Mollies are not delicate compaired to other fish, they come from brackish water but will still thrive in normal tropical water. They make excellent community fish.

This problem with yours could be anything. Get some melafix treat the tank and keep your fingers crossed!

I agree that mollies can thrive in freshwater. There is actually a huge debate about whether Moliies are truly brakish or not.

If you don't have a quarentine tank, a little tlc is all you can do. It's not a pregnant female is it?
