Hello. I have had this tetra for a year and a half. There are only 2 tetras in a 29 gallon tank. I rescued them from someone else so not sure how old it is. For the last couple weeks he has been swimming tilted upwards and skimming the top of the water. He kind of looks skinny except for his belly being a little round and seems to be getting dark. I have given him general cure and then kanaplex and 2 Epson salt baths. I just received maracyn. Has anyone had this happen?

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Don't add chemicals/ medications unless you know what the problem is. Kanaplex and Maracyn are antibiotics and should only be used as a last resort on known bacterial infections that haven't responded to normal treatments. Improper use and mis-use of antibiotics has lead to drug resistant bacteria that kill people, birds, fish, reptiles and animals all around the world.

Post a 1 minute video of the fish swimming. Upload videos to YouTube, then copy & paste the link here.

If you use a mobile phone to film the fish, hold the phone horizontally so the footage fills the entire screen.

--------------------
What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the water?

How often do you do water changes and how much do you change?
Do you gravel clean the substrate when you do a water change?
Do you dechlorinate the new water before adding it to the tank?

What sort of filter is on the tank?
How often and how do you clean the filter?

Is the fish eating well?
What does the fish's poop look like?

0 ammonia and nitrite. Around 10 nitrate. PH is 8.2. 76 degrees F.

I change 5 gallons every week and I do gravel vac. I dechlorinate with stress coat before adding water.

It is an aquaclear filter with sponges and some bio media in it. I squeeze out the sponges in tank water every few months.

The fish has a good appetite, but I have not seen it poop.

It has a swim bladder problem. It sinks as soon as it stops swimming. The fish will continue to do this until it burns itself out. There's no cure so euthanise it.
