hi folks, i recently took up fish keeping and i have had great success for the past 4 months. Unfortunately they have recently become sick, with different fish showing different symptoms. i have 3 neon tetras (i had 5) 2 glowlight tetras (i had 5), 2 adult platies (1 male 1 female) 1 baby platie, about 6 guppies (3 are only a couple of weeks old, one is about 6 weeks old and the rest i dont know, i would say they are full adults) the adults are all female, i didnt have any intention of breeding them so when i got them i asked for females but a baby male got caught up somewhere. i have 2 loaches and 1 peppered cory (i had 3, these where the first to die) and my pride and joys, 4 gold rams. when i got the rams about 2 days later they started with white spot so i seperated them immediately and put them in a little 24L tank.
now, when it all first started about 4 weeks ago, i came home from work and noticed a cory trapped under an ornament upside down with a red patch on his belly. i thought the red patch was just because he had been trapped upside down and didnt think anything of it and removed him straight away. i kept an eye on the tank for the rest of the day and everything seemed ok, 2 days later another cory was dead with the same red mark, im assuming it was an ulcer. then my loaches went really dark in colour, and my guppies went really red around their gills, and eventually got a red ulcer around the rear of the fish. one of my neons lost his rear fin, but it has grown back now, my cory started looking sort of oily greenish colour and some of the guppies started with this shortly after, the guppies have lost a few scales but from what i can see one of the smaller fish keeps biting them i dont know if this is why. but the rams have also got red behind their gills and lost a few scales near the gills and started looking shiny. and today i noticed one of my neons stomachs has got bigger. i had noticed that my female plattie and my 2 guppies stomachs keep swell ing, but i have had a baby platie and a couple of baby guppies in the past 2 weeks so im assuming they where just pregnant as it hasnt seemed to affect the male. after doing various reading i came to the conclusion they had an internal bacterial infection and treated them for a week and a half with interpet anti internal bacteria. this cleared up a few of the symptoms but some still remain. red gills and greeny shiny/oily skin. i came to the conclusion they also have slime disease, i treated them for about a week with king british disease clear but it didnt seem to have any effect on the slimyness and they seemed to deteriorate a bit, i put in this week king british bacteria control which is a more broad spectrum treatment than the interpet one.
from what i can tell they have slime disease, internal bacterial infection and a gill infection all at the same time. i dont know if thats just me looking into it wrongly, and i dont know if curing 1 thing will make the other problems go away. any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
1 more thing, one of my neons did show signs of whitespot so i increased the temp of the tank to 30c over a couple of days, its been at that for 9 days and there have been no signs of whitespot for the past 7 so i was going to turn it back down tomorrow.
any help on this would be greatly appreciated, i can try get pictures if you like
thank you
