I bought a Fig 8 puffer yesterday, put him in a new tank but with mature filter media (I run a couple of spare filters in my tank so i always have bugged up filter media at hand), put him in mildly brackish water and trickle-acclimatised him over about 3 hours. He was fine last night and scoffed a couple of bloodworms.

I came down to see him a few minutes ago and he's going round in circles and doing somersaults - it looks like one of his fins is either damaged or stuck to his body. He is also bent in a half moon shape, but i think this may be him trying to compensate. He did have one white spot on his tail last night but i wasn't going to put any ich medication in until i was sure that's what it was.

the only decoration in the tank is a sunken submarine decoration, it didn't appear to have any sharp edges when i washed it, but I didn't feel all the way inside.

What do you guys think - could it be ich or fungus sticking his fin, or is it more likely to be physical damage?

What should i do? give him some time and see if he gets better? bung some ich or fungus medicine straight in? Take him back to the LFS for advice?

He was such a perky little chap last night, i am so worried about him now. :-( :-(

He sounds in a really bad way, hold of with the meds as he is not strong enough to cope with them , what are your readings in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, what was the ph of the shop you bought the fish to your tank.

Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate about 10. PH is 8, but LFS's where I bought him is 7.5, KH is 10.

He is looking a little better, but is still very wobbly. I've left the lights off and put in some Melafix and Pimafix, didn't feed him today, just hope he continues to improve.
