I have a tank of 45g which has been set up for 6 weeks. My dannios keep dying for apparently no reason. Water parameters are fine ie: ammonia nil; nitrites nil and I'm doing 25% weekly water changes. He's in the "hospital tank" which I've dosed with melafix and stresscoat. He's better now but swimming sideways and "flipping" a lot. any ideas please?

If he's flipping I'm sad to say you are going to lose this one as well, probably get a bad batch, sorry.

Bother!!! \\\\\\\\This lfs has loads of leopard dannios but they've all got problems. Like theyall look a bit strange. Some are odd looking shapes with bends in their boddies or kinks, I think I'll go elsewhere!!!

PS the one I put in quarantine looks ok so far. Fingers crossed!!

Good luck, I no how you feel I have just had a bad batch of gupppys.

Well it's 3 days now and he's just the same. Swims for a while then flips, lays on the bottom then swims again. :( Is it cruel to keep him alive.? What does everyone think? :/

have you tried feeding a pea, it may be a blocked intestinal trach and this will act as a laxative.

Hi Glolight

I had a sick zebra danio with the same sort of symptoms - unfortunately it did die - think it was swimbladder disease - try what the wolf says but if it does`nt cure it it may be the same as my danio had.

Phil

P.S. I now feed mine a couple of peas a week instead of flake and live. :(

Thanx Phil. Do you think it's worth treating for swimbladder as I got some meds for that free with my 2nd hand tank. The chap who sold it to me must have had probs with his cichlids.

Try the pea, but my opion is that it sounds to late for treatment, sorry.

Hi Glolight

I have to agree with Wilder - I tried swimbladder treatment, unfortunately I found my ZD dead.

Try the pea - I suppose it would not hurt to try the treatment but remember to isolate your Dannio and remove the carbon from your filter (if you have any in).

Good luck

Phil

He's better!!!!! :D 3 days of melafix, water change, salt for 3 days then water change then more melafis for 3 days then 50% water change. He ate brineshrimp yesterday and this morning then some flake tonight and he's swimming normally!! Hooray. :p

give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.
