I got two new Corydoras aeneus for my 40 gal tank. The temp is right, the other fish do not bother the cory's, I have plenty of plants and rocks for hiding and the water parameters are good and I have plenty of airation in my tank. My cory's sit at the bottom of the tank and do not move at all, every once in a while they will dart to the top and then back down. I was wondering if there is something wrong, or if they are just getting acclimated?

Hi Carl the Crimson Wonder :)

There's always a risk when you add new fish to a tank. During the first few weeks you have them, keep a watch for any white patches especially on their noses, barbels, fins or tails. This would indicate a bacterial infection which is the most common disease among corys.

Darting to the surface is natural behavior for them. Since they originate in rivers which can become churned up during the rainy season, they are able to gulp mouthfuls of air. When it passes through their intestines they absorb the oxygen in their systems. Unless they do this a lot, you don't have to worry about it.

Corys live in large schools and these little guys are probably wondering where everyone went. If you can add a few more it would probably help to make them feel more secure and be more outgoing.

Ok I was going to see how these guys did and then I was going to get some panda cory's or some more albino one's thanks. ^_^
