The topic pretty much sums it up, his belly and sides look like they caved in, is there any way to cure whatever this is or is the cory pretty much on his way to fishy heaven

all the other inhabitants of the tank are fine

Sounds like interntal parasites or it's not being fed enough food. Try treating with internal parasite mediccation and bottom pellets if you don't already feed it those.

This might sound awful but you are putting the rest of your fish at risk, and it might be best to put the fish down to save the others, with not having anywhere to issolate him.

treat lightly with Anti Internal bacterial infection. There is no need to quarentine the fish, treat it in your main tank and this will pre-treat your other fish against potential risk of infection.

Various manufacturers make an AIB medication, we use Interpet ones at work which seem to work. A water change, then a weeks treatment then another water change usually works. If the fish seems better then a further week with a half dosage of the treatment sometimes help to reassure you that the internal bacterial infection is less likely to return.

That won't work if the fish has parasites, the internal bacteria will only help if the fish has a bacteria infection on top, why shouldn't you issolate the fish as the symtoms she is describing is internal parasites or fish tb, both nasty usually untreatable deseases.

most AIB treatments also treat for parasites, not just bacteria. Whats to say the parasite hasnt already infected the other fish. If you seperate the cory and treat it then how can you stop the other fish getting it if it is already present. You need to treat the whole tank.

And how can you reccomend quarentining the fish if they have no 2nd tank. Get a clue and give some advice that will actually work for the persons situation.

ok for the record wilder is right!
bunjiweb-it wont work!

becterial meds wont work
i tried them trust me i wiped out my whole tank coz they didnt affect it one bit!

why isolate the fish??

so that the others are protected from infection!!!!!!and to help keep the other unnafected fish safe i apreciate the person dosent have another tank but it NEEDS to be isolated if the other fish wish to be ok

i have had it ok .i battled it for months!anti bacterial meds wont work!

I've had internal parasites two saw the worms prutruding from the anus, two pit bull plecs had them, i had to strip the tank down, and put the fish down tryed ever med, sterizin anti internal bacteria med, even cat worming tablets to no aveil had to destroy the two plecs there were really ill anyway, saved the last plec, and all the other fish, no trouble since.

lol, like I am going to seriously listen to other people telling me I am wrong. Fish keeping is down to personal experience. I am giving my opinions on what I think should be done in the relevant circumstances.

The fish cant be seperated, how many ******* times does that have to be mentioned?..
Instead of telling me I am wrong, suggest something that is right rather than getting all high and mighty.

I suppose most of you dont consider things like using "stress coat" weakens your fishes immune system and makes it tolerant to medications, meaning they dont work...
I NEVER use chemicals in my tanks unless i have an ill fish, which has been extremely rare.

I shall contine to give my personal opinion and experiences, and what I have been told by people who have worked with fish for up to 30 years.

I despair... they don't call this a "forum" for nothing...?

Also if you look on most fish sites they will say they are very hard to cure, some say pig worming tablets work if you can get hold of them, they usually say it best to destroy the fish to save the others.

or use dog wormer, this also works, althoguh most you have to crush up tablets with food for it to be affective.

I strongly suggest you cool off a bit bunjiweb, the first post has been edited so i cannot see the whole story but if it is internal parasites then separation of the fish is highly recommended- even if you don't have a spare tank, even an ice cream tub will surfice as internal parasites are extremely dangerous.
Now i DO speak from personal experience when i talk about treating internal parasites and for the record, a large part of fish keeping is not down to personal experience but tried and tested methods- otherwise you could say that neon tetras are great fish for cycling tanks just because you had a one off experience with them but it is widely known they can be notoriously fragile.
Anyways, back to the subject.

Once the fish has got to the red/inflamed bum stage or is passing worms, there is no hope for it medicated or not. Everytime a fish dies with internal parasites, the parasites leave the fish's body and infect other fish, each time mutliplying- so one dead fish can result in another 6 infected fish and so on.
The whole main point of separating infected fish with internal parasites, is not to save the infected fish, but if it does die at least it does not leak dozens of more parasites into the tank. Very few fish ever recover from internal parasites and many do not even last days when infected, euthansia of the infected is the best means of controlling the parasites, if too many fish die in the tank you will be looking at stripping the entire tank down, which is not a nice thing to have to go about.
When i had internal parasites with my guppys, it was not until i start euthanising every infected fish that i started to control the parasite and it is what saved my tank in the end from being stripped down.
Pig worming tablets are a means of medication but by no means a sure fire way of controlling the problem and only have a small success rate, so euthanasia as before mentioned of infected fish is the best ways of controlling the outbreak- would you rather euthanise one infected fish or risk keeping it alive and letting the entire tank get infected?
