I am home with my family for the holidays, but I have a fish tank back in my apartment at school that was left in the care of my roommate (she knows how to care for them properly, I trust her). It is a 10 gallon with 4 danios and 2 cory cats. I cycled the tank properly before adding the fish, starting w/ 2 danios, then later adding the 2 cories, then 2 more danios. We have had the cories about 2 months now, I'd say, and they have always seemed healthy. I do 30-40 percent water changes every 2-3 weeks. The most recent was about 12 days ago.

I got a call on the phone tonight from my roommate. She says when she went to feed the fish tonight, she noticed one of the cory cats lying on its side, not moving. She said it looked like its mouth was "foaming" and there was stuff floating in the water from his mouth. She stuck the net in the water to stir it up a bit and see if he'd move, and she said he did swim, but then stopped and layed on his side again. I am driving down there tomorrow to see what I can do about it, but I can't figure out exactly what is causing these symptoms. My poor fishie! Can someone help me? Has anyone heard of such symptoms before? And how to cure it?

Thank you for any advice!

I don't think that's foam. It's probably cotton mouth, or whatever that fungs is called. Treatments for that are easy.

As for the fish turning onto its side, that is not good. I would suggest a water change immediately. If the problem is swim bladder disorder, that is pretty much all you can do.

Maybe others can help you out more.

what kind of cories? Sounds like cottonmouth. Sounds like it may be dying. Thats basically what happened to my stupid pandas when they got swim bladder.
