My Webpage

This is the link of my previous conversation. So far my fish have what look like white crusties on their fins. My femal blue ram had it the worst but now hers is gone but where it was her fin has gotten a little ragged. The other three rams have a few areas where it has white crusties. I think it might be fungus not ick but am unsure. There are some pics of my female when she had it the worst. Bigger pic

Just remeber alicia you'll have to track both topics now ;)

I hope you get rid of it soon :D .

Can you describe it abit more, does it look like melted wax.

It does not look like wax. The best way I can describe it is crusty looking white blotches. They aren't spots so I'm sure it is not ick. It kind of protrudes from their fins so it does not lay flat against them. They are eating healthy and swimming fine. They do not appear sick aside from the blotches. In the beginning my dominant male had a little on his body but that has gone away and now they just have it on their fins.

Does it resemble a cauliflower.

Do you have any pictures or know any sites where I can see pictures. The blotches are kind of small...so it is hard to tell.

does it sound like this.
Viral Diseases

1) Lymphocystis Disease

A) Iridovirus

B) Observed in most freshwater and saltwater species.

C) Clinically, fish are presented with variably sized white to yellow cauliflower-like growths on the skin, fins, and occasional gills. Occasionally, this virus may go systemic with white nodules on the mesentery and peritoneum.

D) Histopathology: Fibroblast undergoes cytomegaly with many basophilic cytoplasmic inclusion bodies and a thick outer hyalin capsule. The inflammatory response is variable but is usually a chronic lymphocytic inflammatory infiltrate.

E) The disease gains entry through epidermal abrasions. The virus infects dermal fibroblasts.

F) The disease is self-limiting and refractory to treatment. Nodules may last several months and cause infected fish to be susceptible to secondary bacterial infections. Reinfection can occur.

Thanks...I think that might be it. I looked up pictures and I found that my fish just look like they have it but not as extreme. However, the sites i went to said there was no known cure. Is this true? The site you sent me said Paragon worked? I don't want to use medicine as I have heard that using medicine when it isn't needed only causes stress for the fish and unneeded chemicals into the water.

It says there is no treatment and usually there is a risk of secondary bacterial
infections, thats all it says, if you can get hold of the med there is no harm in trying if you can issolate the infected fish.

My one female that no longer has it could be aided by that because her fin does look kind of ragged. So you don't think that it would help my other fish that currently still have it?

Yes as it could be a secondary infection that what it mentioned that second infections kick in with it., good luck .
