Hi Everyone :D I recently joined this forum..I'd really appreciate some help..OK lets see where do I start? OK, 2 out of my 3 bettas are a bit under the weather..Freddy my red betta has tail rot..I noticed yesterday..I tried buying some JFE(Jungle Fungus Eliminator) for him but Petland, the closest oet store to me didn't have that so I ended up having to buy Maracyn-Two and PimaFix..I'm not sure which is better? Any suggestions? Oh by the way, Freddy's tank is in the process of cycling (I added a filter about a week and a half ago) which might be why he developed tail rot to begin with..Also my other fish, Spikey a young crown-tail is constipated and has been so for over a week..His belly seems swollen and I thought he was ok since he continued to eat but was told that they'll eat even when constipated..I heard that giving them laxatives are good to clean out their system..I only have canned peas..so will that be ok? I'm thinking of transferring him from his current 2.5 gallon home to this hospital tank I purchased today which is about 1 gallon..I was told to keep it gravel-less so I can see when he "goes"...I'm afraid though that I might get him depressed and if its ok for me to at least have a plant or cave in there with him..Any suggestions, advice, input is Greatly appreciated..Thanks for reading and sorry about typing so much :/ Take Care everyone! Hello and welcome to the forum.
I wouldn't use canned peas.... I use frozen that I then cook and de-shell (take the outher layer off as they like the insides more).
I have no experience of pimafix or maracyn.... I use diluted melafix.
I would advise to put some plants or objects in his tank for hiding in and something to do but not sing gravel might be a good idea to see how things go.
Hope at least some of that helps.
How often do you do water changes, etc?? In the cycling tank I would be tempted to do 10% daily just to provide top quality water for him and be on the safe side. I am presuming there are no tank mates per fish by the way!

Hi..Thanks for replying :) No they are all by themselves..Freddy and Spikey in 2.5 gallon tank, respectively and Bruce(my first betta) in a 10 gallon by himself..lol In terms of water changes, I have been kinda lazy about that -_- I know I should do about 2 10% water changes weekly..but havent done so..last water change I did was on Saturday where I changed about 50% of the water..I'm hoping to do another water changed today of about 30%..Oh and in terms of the peas..any idea why the canned ones are not good? :) Thanks for replying..really appreciate it..I want my little guys to feel better real soon :)

Canned peas are not good because they use preservatives which are not good for the fish.

oh really? :( I was really hoping to give him one of those peas tonight..The ingredients from the canned peas include Peas, water, sugar and salt..u guys think if I run it under cold water and shell it..it would be ok? (since I don't have anything else) or is it still very bad? oh and does anyone know about the medication I listed for the fin rot? Thanks :D

For fin rot, unless it is severe, I usually just make sure to keep their water clean and warm and put a little aquarium salt in it. I used to use meds for fin rot, but found that they heal just as quickly and with less stress without them.

Hi thanks for replying :D WEll I was doing a water change on the tanks today and noticed that Freddy and Spikey's amonia levels were sky high!! At 2 ppm..so i did a 50% water change since i do have a filter in there and have had it for about a week and a half-so that tank is still cycling..and afterwards tested again and it went down to 1 ppm..so imma do 100% water change tommorow..and try to really upkeep with the water changes..and hopefully that will help freddy's fin rot and if i see it get worse il;l start the meds..I'm thinking after the 100% water change i could do about 20% every 3 days or so since I do have a filter in there? And for spikey gonna remove the marbles and leave the bottom bare and feed em' a pea and fast him for a day or two..i fed him some today..I know I shouldn't but feel so guilty..he looked so hungry and I was feeding my other bettas...he looks like he lost some color from when i first got him..he seems to like to klay on the ground a lot but when i apprioach swims over to me with no problem..I hope im doing the right thing -_-
