One of my bettas has this grayish/blue, mold like stuff on both sides of his face, more specifically by the gill cover and is scratching himself against the sides of the aquarium. I'm not sure what it is, so I haven't bought any medications, though the water is pre-treated w/aquarisol. I've raised the temp to 82 and done salt baths and it seems to have stopped this stuff from spreading. Ammonia and nitrite are 0. Nitrates are very low as I'm doing daily water changes. Does anybody have any idea what it is?

It's probably a type of fungus. Not sure if it's a "true" fungus or not. Salt is the right thing to do, however, I believe I've read that you need to lower the temp for a fungus problem (could be mistake there though). There's a good med called Maracyn (I think...if it's not that, it's made by the same company and sounds sort of the same) that I've had great success with when one of my bettas got a fungus outbreak.

I've never read anything that mentions to turn the temp down when dealing with fungus. I'll look more into that though.

Thanks for the reply.
