Hi, i got my first betta 3 days ago and he has been just fine until this morning. He has ragged fins and there is nothing in the tank that is likely to have attacked him (I currently have neon tetras, cory cats, and a bristlenose plec-the rest of my fish were sent to an early grave by a very aggressive golden gourami who has now gone back to my lfs) so i can only assume its fin rot. What is the best way to treat him? I was windering if i should put him into quarantine tank (though i have no filter with it) and treat him with a shop bought medicine?any advice? thanks

neon tetras would nip him, could that be a posiblilty? what have u noticed? if it is fin rot, there will userally be a discoloration or white fungus looking stuff on the edges, do you see this on you fish? is he acting sick, or acting normal?

I havent seen the neons anywhere near him and there is some slight discolouration around the edges of his fins, like a white colour.its really noticable as he is blue/green and red. he has been acting differently, hiding in the leaves of a plant close to the bottom of the tank.

alright, its likely finrot then, i would suggest removeing him and treating him seperate if possible. id recommend a 1/2 dose of melafix (1/2 the recommended doseage is very important), you could supply an airstone to circulate the water and help the meds work. your gunna want to do a 50% water change everyday untill he appears to be regrowing his fins back, this shouldn't be long thogh, bettas are very fast healers. if u dont have melafix on hand, u should atleast use salt.

was he torn up wen u got him?
