About three days ago I planned on changing my Betta, Pegasus' tank and noticed a small amount of white fuzz near his belly, and the scales surrounding his belly where soft (almost soggy looking) and white as well. This worried be because I had just recently got a full-time job and didn't clean his tank in a week. Pegasus was very sluggish and remained at the top resting on the water thermometer. I immediately changed the water and added a tsp. of MelaFix. Since I had gotten my new job I had been paying my sister to clean the tank, but she had been busy as well and now I have a sick fish on my hands. ; ; When I first saw him I cried because he's the best fish I've ever had. (So much personality n.n) But now his colors have faded and his eyes aren't as black as they were. When I changed the water, he started to swim around more and color started to come back a little. Two days later my sister came home and I told her what had happened. She looked at Pegasus and told me that perhaps he had an internal bacteria and that she had some anti-bacteria medicated fish food pellets I could give him. She also said peas might help. Anyways, the fuzz on around his belly is worse now and he wont eat the medicated food or the peas. I don't want to stress him out even more by seperating him into another tank and regulating his eating. I don't know what to do and any advice is appreciated. I don't know if I'm too late  but please tell me what I can do to try and help him live. Also, here's some information about my tank set-up.

10 gallon tank
Filter & Air Stone
1 Betta
5 Catfish Corys (sp?)

(Also, is this too many fish for a 10 gallon? Should I move 2 of the catfish over to another tank?)

So many questions.. ><

Here are some really bad pictures of him I took a few minutes ago:

I'm sorry it's so blurry but you can make out his white fuzzy belly.

Pegasus is now staying near the bottom (maybe trying to eat the catfish food?) and comes up for air pretty often.
If I can give any more information, please let me know. Thanks! :-(

need a clearer pic to really see him, try standing further away and use your cameras software to edit the pic. it looks like fungus but its really hard to tell. does he have a heater and what is it set on? if not, then what temp is the water?

I'll try taking some better pictures. I don't have a heater, the temperature right now is 74 degrees.

it is clearer but still not quite clear enough. can you describe it more, is it looking like a ball of cotton wool and can you see any redness on the skin in it?
with the corys you cant use salt which is what i would have suggested and the temperature is fine. all i can suggest is meds for killing fungus but keep your water in really good condition and regularly test it for ammonia.

He has a big amount of cotton like substance coming out of him. And im not sure whats wrong, I gave him some thing for amonia.

you need to get a med for fungus. if theres no other fish in the tank then you can slowly raise the salt level to .2%. 1 level teaspoon per gallon every 12 hours and when changing water remember to add it back but not to add salt if topping up through vaporation. if theres other inhabitants then you will need to move them elsewhere. the salt should stay in the tank for at least a week.
