Siamese fighting fish

I recently bought a siamese fighting fish.Its only really tiny but in the same tank where i bought them from there were others the same size.They were all red and blue and a purple colour and right at the front was a weird coloured 1.I got that because it was cute and different.When i got it home and put it in my tank it changed from a brown colour to pink/purple and when i clean the tank it seems to change colour to whatever background its on.Is this normal for a fighting fish or have i just bought a weird new species fish.It definatly looks like a fighting fish.Can anyone help?

Fish often lose their colour when they get stressed and it returns after they settle down in their surroundings. If you got your fish from a tank full of bettas (siamese fighting fish), then it is most probably a female coz you can't keep males together.
