Most websites seem to suggest that they grow to six inches, but I’ve had mine for six months now and they’ve barely grown – all the other fish in the tank have grown – especially my syno’s which are supposed to be slow growing. LFS says they usually only grow to 4 inches, anyone had experience of how big they grow??

Thanks
Andy

Weve had ours for around 3 years now and they have grown from 2" to around 4", i havent seen any larger than this so i would expect this to be the eventual captive size.

They grow slowly, but live quite a long time, maybe 10+ years, so they have plenty of time to put on size. A lot of fish continue growing for their life span, but the rate of growth gets lower and lower with age. I have seen some big ones, ~6"/150mm at a dealers, but they were almost certainly that size at import. Most you see are a lot smaller.
